When I first started playing EvE, I was totally confused by terms like tracking speed and transversal velocity.  read more »

There's a lot of chat about Tiscali traffic shaping their network and blocking traffic on port 26000. This makes you disconnect frequently if you play Eve Online.

As this seemed to be a Tiscali only problem, I disregarded it as being a possible reason for my disconnects. After all, I am with Virgin Media Cable - not even ADSL. And not the same company.

I was wrong.

I went to various sites testing port 26000 on my PC and it was closed. I checked my router, 26000 was forwarded to my pc. Firewall had an exception rule allowing 26000 too.

It wasn't closed by me. It wasn't closed by CCP. Sneaky gits! It can only have been closed by my ISP!  read more »

Following on from my previous experiment which was fairly complicated and gave only a little boost, I would like to post the results of another experiment - Eve on a USB stick!

CCP have stated that the main area where improvement could be made would be to speed up the loading of the res.stuff files, typically these load when you enter solar systems as part of the jump process.

If you have a slow hard drive (like me - 7200rpm ATA100 2MB Cache) then jumping can be a slow process.

Jerkiness, stuttering that sort of thing.

For very little outlay if you are on a budget, you can decrease the load times and gain a noticeable performance increase.  read more »

In this section, we'll look at tackling. The assumption here is that you are new and you are part of a gang.

You can view the GoonFleet video by following the tackling tag on this article. It gives a lot of good advice.

On saying that, where you can fly any frigate as a tackler (a cruiser is NOT a tackler) some frigates are better than others.

The VIGIL detailed here is probably the best tackler out there.

This is for a number of key reasons.

1: It's basic speed is 320m/s. This is extremely fast for a newbie tackler and speed at reaching that target is key.

You want to get within warp jamming range immediately and this helps you do that.  read more »

If you are just starting out in Eve and want to be effective in gangs, this section is aimed at helping you achieve that.

It may not be glamorous, you might not be the hero of the day but you will be correctly fitted and in the right ship.

In these guides, the assumption will be that you are newish to the game.

Do not forget we also have video training here as well. These can be found using the training tag or click here:
