The AU effect (Another Update)

Submitted by Max Torps on Sun, 23/11/2008 - 15:42.

As promised, some of the updates promised are now released. There are a couple of minor display issues that I'm working on. Unfortunately I'm by myself here and don't have a huge team or anything so please bear with me.

Anyway, the latest addition is the Discuss link on commslinks, blogs and other content. The cool thing about this is that it automatically created a forum topic if one doesn't already exist and allows you to post your thoughts.

If a topic already exists, it takes you there and you can read the thread and contribute if you wish.

I've updated the site tours to show folk around these new features.

Regarding blogs, normally people post comments per individual blog and I think this works fine on solo blog sites. However this site is designed to hold multiple blogs, have many diffrerent bloggers and as a result navigation and sorting through comments can be quite confusing. So to cut down on confusion and provide a central discussion area, I've removed comments and introduced the Discuss option to blogs. You will now find all blog discussion in the forum in each blogs own thread which is also linked directly from each blog for ease of navigation.

Don't forget! You can also post audio or video comments. As far as I know, we are the first Eve related site to offer this and I'm very excited at the possibilities this offers.

On site isk is easier to earn. Registered users can earn by simply voting something up or down. You earn more if you make a blog, post a commlink or post in the forum.

I do have plans for the site ISK. I really need help from a coder and have contacted a couple but unfortunately have received no response as yet. Still, I think it important to get the site mechanism for ISK working now. I can (I hope) integrate game isk in at some point. That is not a promise and I will have to confirm a few EULA details with CCP before I go anywhere near what I have in mind. So put the pitchforks down please. Eye-wink Another plan in mind is site competitions of course. So watch out for them. Smiling

Talking of forums, you might have noticed that the forum isn't a phpbb3 one. It is a custom forum and yes, it may take a little getting used to but then most things do. All of this is in preparation for making the site In Game Browser compatible, however CCP are working on a new browser so I have halted the integration project temporarily until more information is forthcoming. However, I don't wish to dismantle the site forum as I have another couple of updates in store for that unrelated to integration but exciting in their own right.

Over the last couple of weeks I've reset the site ISK then had a change of mind and retroactively applied it. My point being is that I'm racing ahead on this but don't want to discourage others. I might reset mine, ho hum we'll see if anyone registers and can't catch up.

Finally, if anyone knows any decent PHP coders out there please either let me know their contact details or let them know I wish to offer work.

I do hope you enjoy the site updates and new features. Please feel free to discuss.
