Sunday 2nd March 2008. After weeks of preparation and slight disappointment toward Saturdays result, eXceed alliance log onto teamspeak, grab a mojito (or two) and make themselves comfortable.

That evening, eXceed alliance are pinning their hopes on winning. With Admiral Goberius again at the helm and some great set ups at hand, the combatants log in and ready themselves.

Soon it becomes apparent that Drake Mezcal isn't in the team or online anymore and panic sets in. A replacement ship is sourced from our stocks and another pilot is drafted in from reserves to fly in his stead.

Luckily, just in the nick of time, the t'internet gods smile on us and he appears online, swiftly rejoins the fleet and with the GM magic button is whisked to the tourney arena.

Already nervously anticipating the result and anxious to succeed, the entire alliance know that this match could go either way. It's never a foregone conclusion in the game of rock , paper, scissors that is Eve PVP Tourney V.

Bracing ourselves, we watch as the commentators discuss who is likely to win. Hopes rise as they each give eXceed a vote of confidence. But is this enough?

As the battle progresses, the initial silence on Teamspeak is deafening. Then when the first griffin went down ts filled with hissed shouts of "yes!" but nothing else. Noone wanted to tempt fate.

Then the other Griffin popped. We became more positive and more verbal. Could this be it? Could we win?

Suddenly we noticed linux4ever was being hit heavily and his armour dipped dangerously low. This could have been bad and the tension rose.

It didn't matter that we were hundreds of miles apart, we were all in Teamspeak, all feeling the same. It was an incredible atmosphere as some of the more seasoned members even turned away from the screens too scared to watch, while others couldn't look away for fear of missing something.

That's the thing about this tourney. It doesn't matter that it's about Internet spaceships, it brings focus and even greater camaraderie and it was fracking exciting stuff!

Massive congratulations to the team members and Admiral Goberius. Also all the work that went on in the background to make it possible.

Also, well played Roadkill!

Now, all we have to do is win the next one.

Rock, paper, scissors. What do you pick?
