Scamming - is that what Eve is? Um, yeah.

This week has had the peanut gallery in stitches now that the bubble has burst over at E-Bank.

It seems like Ricdic basically weighed up his options and took out approx 230 Billion Isk worth about $4000 and as a result got his accounts banned by CCP for selling the ISK (RMT).

This leaves Ebank a little smaller, further complicated by the fact that a loan to someone guaranteed by KIAEddz (seemingly one of the main loan customers and guarantors) has also defaulted to the tune of 275 Billion Isk or so.

That wouldn't be so bad if the guarantor could repay the debt. But he can't. That's over 500 Billion Isk wiped off the banks liquid assets in a week.

It's not the biggest scam or disaster but it's not exactly insignificant either.

So the question is, would you trust any banking system for Eve that is purely player operated or is it time for a true Eve Bank? Is it now time to boycott player banks altogether?

We've witnessed several failures with various enterprises and there's likely more to come. My answer would be no, we need a true Eve Bank. People are too fickle, situations change and there needs to be trust, however romantic the notion of a player driven bank is.

It's fairly obvious that stakeholders (and there are a lot of them plus alts) will maintain there is no problem in an effort to stop the run on the bank and to protect their own self interests.

What we needed at the start of this though was outright honesty, which was a little slow in coming. In fact, much of the information needed to be prompted by a character called Proton Power.

E-Bank had a pristine reputation, now it's been sullied. Has the dark seed been sown in another E-Bank employee to repeat this in the future? The thing is, noone will know until it happens again. Based on past experience with this and other banks, the chances are extremely high.

I will leave you with some interesting links.
