What happens when science opens the door for humans to reach God-like powers of creation and destruction?
A secret Russian mind research laboratory in Podol’sk erupts, annihilating thousands and leaving a monstrous, one-mile deep crater in its wake.
Beau Walker, a reclusive parapsychologist and reluctant empath, is coerced into joining a research team, code-named SHIVA, to investigate the mystifying catastrophe. What seems at first to be a scientific investigation leads Walker and the research team–including a geologist from King’s College–into realities beyond comprehension.

Alan takes us through his creative process, a fascinating journey into the paranormal and a trip down memory lane discussing Altered States, Quatermass and the Pit as well as Close Encounters of the Third Kind whilst talking about his fantastic novel, The Shiva Syndrome.

Dark Matter season one review

DARK MATTER Synopsis The crew of a derelict space ship awakens from stasis with no memories of who they are, or how they got onboard. They discover a cache of weapons in the cargo hold, and when they arrive at the ship’s preprogrammed destination, find a group of poor miners intent on taking a stand against a greedy corporation that wants to force them off their claim. The miners tell them that they are awaiting a shipment of weapons, and the crew assumes that their mission is to help these people. But when they finally manage to recover a data file regarding their own identities, the crew is shocked to discover the truth: they are all wanted criminals, and far from being there to help the miners, they have been sent to kill them. The crew is faced with a dilemma: do they continue to live as violent criminals, or should they try a different path? With no memory of how they became villains in the first place, are they doomed to do it all over again? Complicating matters are the numerous rival gangs, former victims, and Galactic Authority agents who would love to get their hands on them and make them pay for crimes they don’t even remember.
